The odds just don’t allow it. In practice making a book (as they call it) is almost impossible. Don’t fall for it; within a few months they will be selling another system because their earlier ones don’t work.
Can you see that I am at a disadvantage from the start? If Chelsea lose then I lose £10.
Even if you do become successful and manage a winning streak, the chances are that bookmakers will limit or even suspend your account and in some cases just refuse to pay out. It is all down to maths. It is very unlikely that you will ever get the odds needed to complete a book. If Chelsea draw then I lose £10, I can only win if Chelsea wins.
Someone else bets £10 that Chelsea will not win.
In theory you can become the bookmaker by laying every outcome so that you will make a small profit once you have paid out to the winner. In reality it’s much more complicated. A very simple example:
The only person to win is the bookmaker, when did you ever see a bookmaker riding a bicycle? Never is the answer. Exchanges use bots (software) to keep the odds markets artificially fluid that ensure that people will bet more, especially when an event is in running.
That was a very simplistic example. You may even manage it once but then to keep on doing it, is very unlikely.
I place a £10 bet on Chelsea to win
Gambling over the Internet
A betting exchange is different to a usual bookmaker because you are matching your back bet with a lay bet placed by someone else. There are literally thousands of sites on the Internet all dying to get their hands on your money. The exchange takes a 5% cut from the winner of the bet. It is these differences in the betting odds that ensure that you will never win at sports betting.
Sports’ betting has never been easier to do. Nowadays, there is a way for you to become the bookmaker, due to the emergence of Betting Exchanges such as Betfair and Betdaq.
If Chelsea wins then I win £10 – 5%. They offer generous incentives for you to join them with some sites offering to match your deposit up to £200 and do you know why? It’s because they know that they will get their money back plus most of yours.
The only people who are making money out of gambling are the bookmakers; the exchanges and the spammers who sell systems that promise you the earth. Chelsea are expected to win most of their games and so the odds for Chelsea to win are very low, whereas the odds on the other team to win and the draw are quite high. In other words, the more successful you become then the less you will actually win until eventually you lose any profit that you gained.
You could win eight times out of ten then lose all your profits on the two games Chelsea lost or drew

Agriculture Minister Luca Zaia plans measures in the coming weeks to arrest the decline, in part to maintain the quality of Italian horse stocks.
Italy has more than 40 courses. Bloodstock is going out and does not stay,” he said on a sunny spring day at the San Siro track.
MILAN (Reuters) – Italy’s once high-flying horseracing industry is flagging, with bets shrinking and prime horseflesh leaving, and the sector has turned to the government for a rescue plan.
. The rest would be spent on TV and sporting controls, including anti-doping.
“The sector is divided and it is difficult to put the different categories around the table together,” he said.”

“No, we’re not betting today, just visiting,” said one middle-aged man who declined to give his name.
“The other thing is that when you have a good horse, offers come from abroad and they go. In France, they have more resources and the smaller courses have lower costs,” he said.
The half-dozen approached by a Reuters reporter all said they had not placed any bets.
Industry executives said Italian horseracing was handicapped by too many tracks, shrinking stables, falling quality of horses and an aging bettor base.

“Now those who want to get involved in sport do so with a soccer team or in Formula One (motor racing),” he said.
Snai favours promotion of big races with sponsors and the aim of attracting wider TV coverage.
The figure could rise to 7,000 to 8,000 for a big race, such as Milan’s Gran Premio meeting, part of the top-tier Group One races, he said.
“For sure, the small businesses with a few horses can no longer succeed. Twenty or 30 years ago to have a champion racehorse was a status symbol,” according to Giovanni Fava, a spokesman for Snai SpA, Italy’s top horse race company.
Fans scattered by the stands studying racing form and horses were mostly big-bellied older men in casual dress, many of them grey-haired retirees or shift workers.
“There needs to be a classification of racecourses to make a circuit of better ones (a ‘division one’) and other more regional ones as in France. A woman makes her bets at the San Siro horseracing center in Milan May 23, 2009.
Possible moves include course improvements, more high-quality races and TV coverage, Zaia adviser Armando Branchini said. In the Emirates, but also in Great Britain and France, major amounts are invested,” he said in an interview with Italy’s Libero newspaper.
After a highly successful two-year-old career in Italy, he was bought by Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed al Maktoum and left the country to race in the Emirates where he won the $5 million Dubai Duty Free race earlier this year.
Many stables are owned by groups of small businessmen who lack the deep pockets needed to maintain a large stable of high-quality horses.
Francesco Aletti Montano, a vice-chairman at UBS AG in Italy and stable owner, said the quality of racing had fallen through lack of investment compared with other European countries.
Once a prestige sport bankrolled by industrialists and status seekers, horserace bets were down 16 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier, bucking an overall upturn in the nearly 50 billion euro Italian betting market.
Stands are often half-empty at such tracks as Milan’s San Siro, and Italian course attendance was down 20 percent in the first fourth months of the year, according to industry figures.
Among jockeys who have sought their fortunes elsewhere, second-generation rider Frankie Dettori started in Italy but soon moved on to Britain. That’s too many, according to Luigi Migliaccio, an expert with Italy’s Agipro news agency, which specializes in gambling issues.
Former jockey and trainer Angelino Vincis, 75, said the cost of maintaining a competitive stable of 50 to 70 horses was exorbitant. The measures would be funded by a betting levy and a new tax from slot machines due to raise 160 million euros a year.
Fava, the Snai spokesman, said normal attendance at the 10,000-seat San Siro course was 3,000 to 4,000 for a typical Saturday or Sunday race.
One sign of the downturn is a horse such as the ex-Italian trained Gladiatorus.
Branchini sees 50 percent of resources going on bigger prize money and about 25 percent on courses. He returned this month to win the Derby di Roma, Italy’s richest race with a purse of 814,000 euros, on a horse called Mastery.

And my view is, if it’s going to go on, let’s make it transparent, let’s bring it into the sunlight, so to speak, and let’s regulate it, the same way we do a lot of other industries,” he said.
He also laughed at the recent public attention given to the fact that Christie is a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. The economic impact, he said, is even greater, given the uptick in floor traffic at the state’s betting establishments, and nearby shops and restaurants.
But even with Christie and Silver on board, Markell said, he’s not optimistic about the chances for Washington to make major changes.
“I wouldn’t be wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey too much around Delaware,” Markell said.
Because of a 1992 federal law, most forms of betting on sporting events in the United States is only legal in Nevada. Jack Markell said on “Capital Games” that he’d like to go further, but realizes that the federal law stands in the way. He applauded Silver’s move for advancing the conversation.
Next door in Delaware, officials have pushed up against the limits of the federal ban with a “sports lottery” that allows bets only on multiple NFL games on single tickets. http://espn.go.com/espn/chalk/
“Governor Christie, and I’m happy to join him, should turn his attention to Washington, DC, to Congress, and say, ‘Here are all the reasons it should be regulated, but let’s come up with a framework that makes sense on a national basis presumably that would allow states to opt in,’ ” Silver told ESPN’s Andy Katz.
“Having somebody like Adam Silver speak out is powerful, and I think it’s going to take folks like him … That law has been in place for more than two decades..

With both powerful men calling for expanded legalized sports gambling, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is inviting New Jersey Gov. I’d be perfectly happy to be wrong,” Markell said.
Silver broke with his fellow American sports commissioners last month by endorsing expanded legal sports gambling in a New York Times op-ed. Chris Christie to join him in lobbying Congress to rewrite federal laws on the subject.
But during an interview on ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” that also aired on the ESPN/ABC podcast “Capital Games,” Silver said that rather than fight New Jersey and other states, his league can work with them to establish a uniform federal structure that would acknowledge that sports gambling already takes place in many venues that are far from Las Vegas sports books.
Markell said sales have roughly tripled in the four seasons where limited NFL betting has been legal in Delaware. It is co-hosted by ESPN’s Andy Katz and ABC News’ Rick Klein, and it can be downloaded via iTunes or at espn.com/podcenter.
“Whether it’s ESPN with ‘Bracketology,’ whether it’s all the [betting] lines in every national newspaper, on every Web service, my point was there’s massive, massive sports betting going on in this country,” Silver said on “Capital Games.”
Also on the podcast, we chatted with David Purdum of ESPN Chalk, which covers sports gambling, about the legal cases and possible momentum for change. The state lost a federal court case that’s roughly similar to New Jersey’s challenge before establishing the more limited betting system.
“With all the unbelievable dysfunction in Washington, it’s sort of hard to see much happening. New Jersey is now fighting in federal court to dramatically expand sports betting at its Atlantic City casinos and its racetracks.
“Capital Games” is part of the ESPN Perspectives audio series, focusing on the intersection of sports and politics. maybe that’s what it takes to move it,” said Markell, D-Del. He told Katz that his intention was to “break the ice” to have a real conversation on the subject.

“Estimates are that it’s up to $400 billion a year. Sentiments in large swaths of both New Jersey and Delaware run more favorably toward the Cowboys’ archrival Philadelphia Eagles.
The NBA and the other major professional sports leagues are actually fighting New Jersey in court to enforce a federal ban on most sports betting outside of Nevada. “It could be brought into the mainstream economy, instead of money changing hands the way it does now.”
